Reform UK Housing Spokesman Sacked Over Grenfell ‘Everyone Dies’ Remarks

Reform UK has sacked its housing spokesperson after controversial comments about the Grenfell Tower disaster sparked widespread outrage.

Simon Dudley, a former head of Homes England, was dismissed after he described the 2017 fire as a “tragedy” but added that “everyone dies in the end.”

Comments Spark Fury From Survivors and Politicians

The remarks were quickly condemned by survivors and bereaved families, with campaign group Grenfell United calling them “deeply dehumanising.”

Political figures also reacted strongly, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer urging Reform UK leader Nigel Farage to take action over what he described as unacceptable comments.

Farage Calls Comments ‘Deeply Shocking’

Initially, Reform appeared to stand by Dudley, but the backlash forced a swift reversal.Nigel Farage later confirmed Dudley had been dismissed, describing the remarks as “deeply shocking” and inappropriate. The decision marks the second high-profile dismissal within the party in recent weeks.

Grenfell Still a Raw National Issue

The Grenfell Tower fire in 2017 killed 72 people and remains one of the UK’s worst modern disasters.Campaigners have repeatedly stressed that the deaths were preventable and linked to systemic failures in building safety.

Dudley’s comments were seen by critics as downplaying the seriousness of the tragedy.

Apology Follows Backlash

Following the controversy, Dudley issued an apology, saying he did not intend to belittle the disaster and was instead criticising building regulations.

However, the apology failed to stem criticism, with pressure mounting on Reform UK to act.

Political Fallout Continues

The incident has intensified scrutiny of Reform UK’s policies and leadership, particularly on housing and safety issues. With Grenfell still a deeply sensitive topic, the row is likely to continue to dominate political debate in the coming days.
