Police Find No Evidence Of ‘Family Voting’ in Gorton and Denton By-Election

Greater Manchester Police have concluded their investigation into alleged voter influencing at the recent Gorton and Denton by-election. They announced on Friday that there was no evidence of any intent to influence or refrain any person from voting.

This followed a criminal report issued by Reform UK after the defeat of their candidate, the former GB News presenter, Matt Goodwin. Goodwin was a distant second to the Green Party’s colourful plumber, Hannah Spencer, with Reform UK taking 10,578 votes compared to the Green’s final tally of 14,980.

Goodwin was visibly upset after the defeat and raised concerns about claims of family voting. He said: “Everybody can see this for what it is. They will look at this result and see the very concerning warnings about family voting and they are going to see exactly what this is.”

Greater Manchester Police’s invrstigation was prompted by Reform UK following a public statement made by independent electoral observers at Democracy Volunteers.

After a thorough investigation, police confirmed that none of the observers alleged that any verbal instruction or physical conduct that indicated one person was directing or coercing another took place.
